- The area of Arafah is known as being located at a rocky mountain whose height is approximately 300 m. It is located between Makkah and Taif. It is about 23 km away from the Grand Mosque, 10 km from Mina, and 6 km from Muzdalifah. Arafah is the greater pilgrimage, including the standing which is one of the pillars of Hajj, according to the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him): “Hajj is Arafah.” In the middle of the mountain is a 7-meter-tall concrete sign that distinguishes it from the rest of the mountains
- Arafah was given that name in relation to the mountain in which it is said that people used to get to know each other. It was also said that the name relates to Adam and Eve when they descended from Paradise and met in Arafah (literally means he/she knew), so he knew her and she knew him. There are other narrations indicating the same meaning of the name.
- The day of Arafah is a day in which the merit of place and time meet, in moments of faith in which Allah’s mercy prevails. It is the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, and among its virtues is the abundance of Allah’s freeing of His servants from the Fire. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: There is no day when Allah sets free more servants from Hell than the Day of Arafah. It is a day when Allah, the Mighty, boasts to His angels about what the people of Arafah are doing. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Verily, Allah, the Almighty, boasts to His angels of the pilgrims on the afternoon of the day of Arafat, saying: ‘Look at My servants, coming to Me disheveled and dusty’.” Also, supplication on that day is the best and greatest supplication. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The best supplication is that of the Day of Arafah.
