He currently serves as the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Chairman of the Guest Services Program Committee, Chairman of the Board of Kadana Development and Investment Company, and Chairman of the Board of the General Authority for the Care of the Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque. Previously, he held the positions of Minister of Health and Minister of Commerce and Industry. He is the longest-serving minister in the Saudi Cabinet heading a ministry and the first Saudi minister to lead three different ministries. He is distinguished by his dedication to developing and streamlining procedures, utilizing technology, and fostering creativity in his work. As a result, he has brought a qualitative transformation to every ministry he has served, and his name has become associated with innovation, excellence, and technological advancement.

Minister of Hajj and Umrah, 2021 – Present
Minister of Health, 2016–2021
He assumed the position of Minister of Health in 2016 and brought about a significant qualitative transformation in the ministry. He established more than 400 periodic indicators to measure performance and satisfaction and focused heavily on developing primary healthcare centers. He worked on improving performance, enhancing healthcare services, and promoting remote healthcare. His Excellency achieved remarkable success during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading the ministry efficiently, which raised citizens’ satisfaction and trust.
He also chaired the National Committee for Traffic Safety, which, under his leadership, witnessed a 52% reduction in traffic accident fatalities, after years of continuous increase. In recognition of his efforts, a Royal Decree was issued on 15 October 2021 appointing him as Minister of Hajj and Umrah.
Minister of Commerce and Industry, 2011–2016
During his leadership of the Ministry of Commerce, he worked extensively on developing, simplifying, and automating business procedures, resulting in the majority of the ministry’s services being transformed into easy-to-use electronic services. The issuance of commercial registrations for businesses was reduced to less than 180 seconds.
He also focused on developing various laws, during which the new Companies Law was issued, and significant updates were made to the Commercial Law, the Consumer Protection Law, the E-Commerce Law, and the Bankruptcy Law. In addition, the issuance and protection of trademarks were fully automated.
Industrial cities expanded to four times their previous size, as he modernized industrial licensing procedures, making them electronic and enabling issuance within one business day. He also led the Industrial Clusters Development Program, which contributed to attracting many advanced industries.
